The Zodiac Signs As Witches & Their Magickal Practice

What does your zodiac sign have to say about your witchy style and magickal practice?!

*Please know that I am not into labeling your practice or believe that your witchcraft has to fall into one particular category. I do however, think that this is a fun blog post to see how your Sun, Moon, and Rising signs can impact your magickal workings and the way you work your witchy woo!

Aries

May have a tendency to work with fire or perform candle magick. Short spells are best as Aries may not have the attention span or energy to complete a working that may take several weeks or months. It is impulsive and headstrong magick, with not a lot of planning or practice involved. Their magick may focus on who they wish to become and may center around identity, independence, and soul purpose. There may also be an emphasis on their physical health and stamina as well. Loves protective, defensive, and even vengeful magick. Don’t get on this witches bad side! Remember, Ares is the God of War.

Taurus

Loves to work with earth and the elements - especially out in nature. The Green Witch. Drawn to shamanism and works with the birds, the grass, the flowers, the trees, the fae, an array of animals, etc. Fond of working with the ancestors, bones, stones, feathers, and furs in their practice. Works their magick in the kitchen with food as well as love magick and space clearing. Fond of any type of working to help conserve energy and long term goals although impatient with results.

Gemini

Loves affirmations, writing and reciting spells, and creating sigils. Has lots of magickal ideas, but may not put many of them into practice. May incorporate pop culture into their practice or blog about it on social media. Loves to communicate with deity, angels, and other high vibe beings. May be fond of burning petitions and allowing the smoke to carry their petitions to the Universe. Gemini also loves to read about the practice itself and may even enjoy doing witchy work with their BFF.

Cancer

The empathic healer. Loves to work with the moon and goddess energy. May be particularly good at fertility magick. Works on a level of emotional healing as well as with the inner child, the mother wound, and abandonment issues. Many prefer to do their workings in private or in the comfort of their own home. Cancerian magick is all about the environment it is worked in - feeling comfortable and safe in the space is key. As a water sign (and a crab), they may also be quite fond of ocean magick.

Leo

What can I say other than big, bold, loud, colorful magick?! The rockstar bruja who takes pride in their magick and may see it deeply as a part of their identity. They aren't afraid to show off their witchy charm and looks. They are their magick. Their magick revolves around loyalty, beauty, and matters of the heart thus they may do spells for family and close friends. May be a big fan of glamour magick and love spells. They also may enjoy working with the Sun and for increased confidence, power, and success.

Scorpio

Working with the dead, ancestral work, divination, psychic ability - if it goes there, Scorpio is into it. Sex, lust, passion, and blood magick - keep it hot and keep it coming. Scorpio is into the ancient side of magick that isn't always talked about. They also work with the shadow and to help heal deep trauma. Scorpio is also fond of protective, defensive, and yes, even vengeful magick. Can obsess over their work, but loves the commitment and challenge of magick. Likes to keep the inner workings of their practice secret.

Sagittarius

They enjoy the magick of possibility. Loves to learn the magickal wisdom of other cultures to have a deeper understanding of witchcraft and magick as a whole. Loves to do ritual outside and in different places. Likes to tap into higher consciousness and wisdom to add new inspiration to their practice.

Capricorn

Can you say money magick? Capricorn loves to work their magick on their business, self improvement, and money making potential. I can also see Capricorn working with sigils a bit. Capricorn uses magick to increase potential and for steady fuel to fire the work they’re already doing. Capricorn is very down to earth, particular, and practical in their magick and take their practice extremely seriously. May also be into a few darker aspects that they don't care to share with others.

They are the most likely to be Hedgewitches performing dream work such as astral traveling, past life work, and working on the other energetic planes. As an escapist, Pisces may feel the need to use substances like marijuana, mugwort (an herb), ayahuasca, or peyote to help them achieve different levels of consciousness (even though it’s not necessary). Honoring your Ancestors Beyond just Samhain

ancestors-samhain-2.jpg

A relationship with your Ancestors goes beyond just honoring them on Samhain (Halloween). Our Ancestors are an integral part of who we are whether we are consciously aware of it or not. You can deepen your relationship with them by connecting with their spiritual energy as often as you'd like - not just once a year on October 31st!

Honor them everyday. Honor them for their strengths, trials, and tribulations. Remember that they were people too. They lived. They are not so different from us. Even though technological and geographical changes may be apparent, the human soul is still the same, no matter the passage of time.

Your Ancestors want you to win! They want you to succeed and for your soul to grow. Give them thanks for the blessings they send your way and the lessons that come to us through challenges. Ask them for strength and courage. To share their wisdom and guidance with you.

Here are some ideas to help you honor and deepen your connection to your Ancestors, no matter what time of year…

• Drawing a family tree is a great way to connect with your family and to teach younger generations (as well as yourself), about your family history. Genealogy or Ancestry websites are also great places to start. Connect with your heritage by slowly learning about the country, culture, and it's people.

• Try learning their divination practice, like Runes, Kipper, I Ching, bone sets, cowrie shell divination, and scrying just to name a few! Ask them for help and to guide you in your learning. This may even be a great way of communicating with them (perhaps even their preferred method) and is a great way to strengthen bonds.

• Take a trip to reconnect with your heritage - Norway, Tibet, France, Russia, Africa, Jamaica, England, Brazil, Mexico. What feelings do you get when you go there? Try the cultural foods. Step out of your comfort zone a bit. How does the air feel, the scenery look? How is the vibration of this place different from where you currently reside - how does your soul feel here? While there, try to visit places of historical importance like churches, battlegrounds, sacred sites, etc. Embrace and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of your Ancestors.

• If you can't physically go there, try doing so in meditation! Take a step back in time. Ask them to show you their lives or their favorite places. Crystals and stones such as petrified wood, garnet, picture jasper, black kyanite, nuumite, and rose quartz are also great to work with when connecting to your ancestry (and past lives as well).

• Always give them thanks - especially when connecting to the Spirit world whether that be through divination methods or other means like mediumship. You may feel their presence more closely and hear them more clearly during the month of October as the veil begins to thin even further! Of course the most significant day for this is Samhain.

Here are some ways to show thanks, gratitude, and appreciation to your loved ones in Spirit…

• Rose oil, incense, flowers, tobacco, alcohol - what did they love? Did your grandfather smoke cigars? Buy his favorite and burn it as an offering to him. Did your distant aunt love chrysanthemums? Plant some in remembrance of her. Did your mother love rose oil? Wear some when you want to connect with her more deeply. Did your great great grandmother have a special cookie recipe? Make them in honor of her.

• Use the special baby blanket or delicately dainty table cloth that was made for you. Pull out the old family photo album. Make tea with the intricately decorated tea set that belonged to your grandmother's, grandmother's, grandmother and has been collecting dust in the china cabinet for years. You can even make a special meal and leave a place at the table for them during celebrations. Perhaps their birthday or an anniversary? What does your intuition tell you to use? Connect with your Ancestors in meditation! Listen to what they tell you.

Remember that your Ancestors go back generations and generations! Not just your great great grandparents, but someone who you may not even know the name of or anything about. Someone who may have been forgotten with time. Even though you may not know what they looked like, did for a living, or who they are in relation to you, they are still a part of your ancestry and are there guiding you throughout your life whether that be in a large or small capacity. Maybe even for one particular situation that you have in common, even if it is only for a few minutes, weeks, or years of of your life. Honor and give respect to them on your altar whether on Samhain, Yule, or any day of your choosing. Light a candle, say a small prayer. Any acknowledgement is enough. <3
